How do I add a record for a species of beetle not officially on the current British list ?

Submitted by mike@meadbrigg… on

I recently found some specimens of the bark beetle Gnathotrichus materiarus (Fitch, 1858) (Scolytinae), which I do not think has yet been formally added to the British list.  They were found on cut timber in the New Forest, at a site several miles from where this species was first identified as an accidental introduction from North America from specimens collected in 2014 and 2015 (Inward, 2020; Journal of Pest Science).

How to Rely to a Forum Comment ?!

Submitted by MarkWebster on

I seem to have tried and clicked all available options but just can't fathom out how to reply to a comment. I've never encountered a more confusing user interface (and I used to work on FRTRAN in the 80's with punch-cards).

There's the added confusion of the security (I'm not a robot) entry and a Preview button then a Save button that overlays a Reply button and lots of New Comment and Subject buttons. What on earth is going on with this page, I just want to reply to a comment.

How to submit records when "submit" button is missing?

Submitted by kittycparker@g… on

I've just entered a list of records,  added the location to a 10 metre square, and put in  a couple of words of comments. All done and ready to go, but nothing happens when I press the "save" button. I've had the page up for a couple of hours now and made numerous attempt to submit it, but the process won't start. Has something changed, please? I have severely impaired hands and typing is difficult and time consuming, so I'm worried about losing everything I've entered if I navigate away from the page.

Habitats

Could someone please offer me some guidance on how best to complete the "Habitat" section.

I'm a keen recorder and would like to add Habitat information that is of use to researchers but as a non professional I never quite know what to select.

Typically I'm on "nature reserves" in urban areas, so I'd have patches of woodland, patches of grassland, and areas of what might be called "scrub" with gorse etc.
