Captcha scam

Submitted by dvasi on

Hi all,

I had a worrying experience on the iRecord website just now - I had left my verification page on a tab for a few hours, and when I came back to it, it loaded up a captcha button, one with a "Click here to prove you are not a robot" label. When I did that, it asked me to verify my humanity by running a series of shortcuts that would have opened up a terminal and run a command in it, one that had been pasted to my clipboard and links to a webpage.

I have never seen a scam like that before, and I have no idea if it is because iRecord is compromised in some way. Has anyone seen anything similar?

Best,

I had this yesterday too.  For some reason I was unable to close the window, or switch to other windows, so I just powered down my laptop. On reboot, all was fine and I access iRecord as normal.

Yes - just trying to login to irecord - asked for CTRL + R and CTRL + V . First time I have logged in for several months.

After adding my first post above I checked my anti virus. It had prevented access to two black listed sites. I noticed that iRecord was down for two days after this. If this scam was real we ought to be informed of what happened and what the website managers have done to prevent a similar scam in the future.
