Ficocyba ficaria - can't create a record

Submitted by John Lindley on

I've observed Ficocyba ficaria (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae) in my local area, but iRecord doesn't recognise the species name.  Is it because this species is new to the UK?

Yes, it's relatively new and hasn't been added to the UKSI list that iRecord is based on. I've seen it recently too (in Norwich a couple of weeks ago) and mentioned it to Alan Stewart, the national recording scheme organiser, who said that he will have it added, so keep the details safe and hopefully you will be able to add it on at some point in the near future.

on 19 December 2025 I wrote to NBN to say:
Three months ago on 17 September 2025 Chris Raper of Nat. His. Mus. added the new UK arrival Spurilla neapolitana to UKSI. It has not yet appeared as an available name on NBN (or iRecord). Is there a problem at NBN causing the delay? Recorders are unable to document the arrival of this species.
Yours Ian Smith (Verifier on iRecord)
The reply was:
Due to limited capacity, we have been delayed in updating our version of the UKSI on the NBN Atlas. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this. {as of today 20 Jan 2026) it still has not been added to NBN after 4 months, and is not available on iRrcord
