Tewkesbury Nature Reserve

Our Vision “A healthy, thriving community nature reserve, a safe haven for wildlife combined with an educational environment in which people can connect with nature.” Our Mission Establish, develop and maintain a healthy and thriving community nature reserve, by protecting, improving, and conserving the natural environment, and enhancing the biodiversity of the site. Make the reserve accessible to the public as a place for recreation, education, and the promotion of health and wellbeing, while balancing the needs of visitors with those of the natural environment. Develop the reserve as an outdoor learning environment, and promote an understanding and appreciation of freshwater wetlands, nature and wildlife across all age groups through active community participation. Reinstate and support natural hydrological processes, re-naturalise watercourses and create new wetland areas, creating new spaces for nature and improving the site’s ability to retain water, and playing a part in reducing flooding.

The Lancashire Wildlife Trust

We are your local conservation charity, working to protect wildlife and nature for the future across Lancashire, Greater Manchester and North Merseyside. We manage nature reserves, deliver specialist projects and inspire and engage people about their local wildlife. We could not achieve what we do without the commitment and support of our volunteers. Our organisation is unique - while most of our work for wildlife takes place at local grassroots level, we have a national voice.

The Wildlife Information Centre

TWIC is the Local Environmental Records Centre for south-east & part of central Scotland that collects, collates and disseminates information about the wildlife in our area. The Centre is a not-for-profit company with charitable status and provides objective, independent wildlife information for people and organisations. TWIC is a focal point for biological recording and is working to increase our knowledge of the terrestrial, freshwater and marine wildlife throughout our area. The Centre seeks to hold as comprehensive a record of the wildlife of the area as possible. We have an assumption of open access to these data, unless there is evidence of potential for damage to wildlife resulting from their release. TWIC provides a wide range of data services; we routinely supply data to local authorities for screening planning applications, to consultants for preparing environmental assessments and to students, recorders and the public to inform coursework, recording efforts and general interest. For commercial requests, we charge an administrative fee to cover our costs in processing the request and to contribute to our data collation work. TWIC is a member of the Association of Local Environmental Records Centres (ALERC) and the National Biodiversity Network (NBN). Records from our own projects and surveys, and those of other organisations and individuals who have given permission, are made available online via the NBN Gateway and the NBN Atlas Scotland. We also work with many National Recording Schemes and Societies and their vice-county recorders to share and verify records. Funding supporters The ongoing development of TWIC and its services is funded by grant aid from Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), service level agreements with City of Edinburgh Council, East Lothian Council, Midlothian Council, Scottish Borders Council, Live Borders Trust, Stirling Council and West Lothian Council and income from contract work, projects, contributions from Scottish Wildlife Trust and voluntary contributions.
