Differentiating between records of insects or just their larvae

Submitted by mossnicholas@aol.com on

Hi

I am going up to Scotland next week to try and see Azure Hawker. Recent records suggest Correur is likely location but in examining records how do you tell if the record is an actual dragonfly or just larvae?

Am I missing something in looking at an individual record that tells me which it is?

There is a life stage field, so usually an observer will have selected adult or nymph and that will show up in the record details. Not all records might have this - you can also choose a 'not specified' option - I would suggest that most casual records would be of the adults given that finding and identifying nymphs requires more effort and specialist knowledge.

It doesn't appear that you can create a filter by life stage, however if you click on the spanner icon in the top right of the list of records you can choose to display a column with the life stage field.
