I have been asked how data from iRecord should be cited when being referred to in an international publication. A reference would need to be clear enough that it can be recognised in perpetuity, just as a reference to a paper publication would be. The simple term 'iRecord' is understandable and accessible now, but in future if the database is accessed in a different way, or if the word 'iRecord' becomes used by other systems, it could be ambiguous. I doubt that 'iRecord' is copyrighted to the CEH, as 'iphone' presumably is by Apple. So maybe 'iRecord, managed by UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology', for example, would be a suitable citation.
I have put this request on the Forum so that hopefully it will remain as a reference source for others.
