iRecord app v6.5.2 on Android (10) phone
When I started a general survey yesterday (2pm - 5pm) (though it was exclusively recording galls) the GPS signal hadn't picked up, so I manually put in a hectad reference as a holding position and set geolocate records to on. The app/phone stayed awake for most of the period, but occasionally timed out - it might be worth having "stay awake" as an option. The app accepted all the records, but on checking afterwards many of them didn't have an accurate grid reference, just the hectad value, which is not very informative. There should be some warning if the app hasn't picked up a good position. On this occasion I also made a couple of records using the BSBI app, and in both cases the GPS position was poor. This is perhaps inevitable when swapping between apps.
A consequent issue seems to be that because all the records are for one survey it is not possible to edit the grid reference for each record on the desktop interface. Given that all records for a survey are not going to be in the same position and that GPS positions can be 200 m out (demonstrated on the BSBI recording app detailed track), there is a real need to be able to edit positions. The BSBI app does let you edit individual positions, something that I've had to do when it lost precision.
Perhaps a separate issue is that many positions appear to be shown as lat/long rather than as grid reference. This even applies in the example of editing at Record: Edit or delete a record | iRecord Sometimes this is also shown in notifications where the original grid reference has been transformed into a lat/long position.
