I have had a report from a would-be user that he 'can't get iRecord to work'.  It turns out he is using LINUX.  Does anyone have any advice I could pass on?

I'm afraid you'll need to provide far more detail if you hope to get any kind of useful response.

I'm not a Linux desktop user but I've tried accessing the iRecord site on my Raspberry Pi -- using both Firefox and Chrome -- and experienced no issues. Since the desktop version of iRecord is a website and everything happens within your browser it ought to be device agnostic and shouldn't really care what operating system you're using.

One thing that may confuse new users is the delay between entering a record and it appearing in the list of "all records" or "my records". The delay can be substantial at times and this may fool a new user into thinking the site isn't working or they're doing something wrong.
