Is there a way to sort all the records in my verification queue by the date they were queried? I'd like to revisit records that are queried and start to take decisions (probably rejecting them) on ones where there has not been a response in over a year. Cannot find any easy way to do this.

Unfortunately not
Looks like querying a record doesn't change (or set) its verification status and so that simply remains without a verification date, nothing to sort on in that field.
I'm not sure if this would work, but worth a go. If you go to the spanner icon on the right of the verification queue it allows you to choose which columns are displayed. One of them is "verified on". If you make sure that box is ticked and hit save, then on your main verification screen select "queried" from the drop down menu to restrict the records to just the queried ones, hopefully that would give you the date you changed the status to queried and then you could click at the top to order them.
