Working through some verifications and found this one (https://irecord.org.uk/record-details?occurrence_id=33412424) with the message "Very scarce species or species that are difficult to identify. A voucher specimen may be required by your County Recorder (seek advice before releasing the moth) particularly if the species record is outside of the normal flight period or geographical range. A good set of photographs showing all critical identification features clearly may suffice in some cases." Most other records of this species do not have this status, just the lower status that inexpereinced recorders may need checking.
As a test I tried to create a record of the species myself and it also had the level 3 'very scare / difficult to ID' flag.
In my opinion the species is not one that needs this status (unless there has been some new findings casting doubt on previous ID methods). Can it be corrected.
Hi David, this problem arose as a result of Mathew's Wainscot being synonymised with Common Wainscot. In some cases the warning about scarcity was being applied to records of Common Wainscot. This should now be fixed.
