I found a spider that I’m sure is a Candy-striped Spider which is either of Enoplognatha ovata or latimana. I have looked this up on my local on line ID site - NatureSpot and considered the information on a British Arachnology Society page relating to Enoplgnatha ovata and E. latimana which I am told does not exist and that the spider I have seen is Misumena vatia. This is rubbish, a look at that spider in my Wild Guide to British Spiders shows the red mark as the only similarity. My photos are not of a crab spider.
I am very disappointed that I cannot enter my identification. I have been photographing insects and fungi for years and have always struggled to get them recorded, usually due to cumbersome listing arrangements. It seemed until now, having come across iRecord quite recently, that listing was easy. Until today, I cannot see how the spider I tried to list could in any way be seen as Misumena vatia, despite my photos not being of the best
This sounds like it might just be a bit of confusion between two separate things.
To be clear, you can submit a record of any UK species that you think you have found, and the only way the record then gets rejected is if a human verifier looks at the record and thinks that it is either wrong or there isn’t enough evidence to say that it is right.
What I think has happened here is that if you have uploaded the photo via the iRecord app, it’s AI identifier has made an ID suggestion of Misumena vatia. You should be able to just ignore that and post with your ID.
I would add though that as you have found with your research, there are two very similar Enoplognatha species. So if you do submit it is E. ovata that would probably get rejected because you can’t be sure it isn’t latimana, so I would only submit it at genus level. If there is an option to use the Spider Recording Scheme form for submission, that will prioritise it for verification.
