Plant Survey Grid Square Alert

Submitted by CharlieLimaBravo on

Is there any information on how to activate the grid square alert when using the Plant Survey section of the Other recording options on the app?

I can't see anywhere in the app that would turn this on other than selecting Plant Survey.

Sorry, we weren't sure if this feature was useful to recorders, so it was disabled a few years ago when the app was rewritten. It wouldn't be hard to re-enable in the next app update though.

It would be great it it could be re-instated. At the moment although a Plant Survey specifies a particular Monad/Tetrad the app happily allows you tocontinue to add records when a boundary is crossed.and a new Monad/Tetrad in entered.

Hi,

This feature would also be very useful when using the butterfly app.

It would be great to know when crossing a 1km / Tetrad / 10km boundary as this can be a trigger that sightings are in a new area and therefore possibly more important than the repeated recording within the same square.

I have resorted to checking OS maps to help with this, so an automatic notification would be great.

Hi, is there any news on whether this feature is planned to be re-enabled, and if so how long it might take?

Thanks!

This seems to be working in the latest version. I find it helpful and would love to set the threshold lower than a monad for population recording.

Is this feature available on Android, or were you referring to the iPhone app?
I am unable to find this option despite trying everything I can think of.

Ahh, thnaks for the clarification, I see it now.
I use the app to record butterflies not plants so wasn't looking within the plant survey area.
I was thinking the grid square alert would  be operational as a general app feature, not just when a plant survey is active.

The examle use-case would be when on a walk, getting an alert (ideally a vibration) when walking into a new tetrad (or monad, etc.) so you know it's 'more' important to start recording common species again given being in a new square.

Ideally I'd record all butterfly sightings species all the time, but for common ones it's not feasible when say walking with other people to record every single sighting. So, getting a vibration from the phone would alert me that I'm in a new 'square' and the next few sightings are 'more' valuable.

So, could this feature be moved up to a general function please? Even better would be to also provide it within the iRecord butterflies app which I use at the moment. This feature is important enough I'd switch back to the general app for longer walks and hikes if it wasn't added to the butterfly app.
