remove autofill 'Identified by' name

Submitted by Nick Bowles on

When i open iRecord to record lists, I always get the column entitled "Identified by" filled and have to delete the person's name every record. How can I clear that field and save hours of needless deleting?

The 'identified by' column starts off defaulting to your name, and then if you change it then it copies down the name that you last used. Presumably the point of this is that usually the identifier will be the same for most of the records in a list so it saves entering it each time, but you can change it at any point. You can delete it for individual records and have no identifier listed, but it will then default back to the previous name or your name.

So if you don't want anyone in the identifier field then it looks like you would have to delete them manually, but then someone must be identifying the records you are submitting! If you don't know who it was then I suppose you could put Unknown, which would then copy down. If it is you then changing the name to yours for the first record should mean that you are listed for the next lot of records and no deleting is necessary. If you have identified some of the list and someone else has identified the other half then it would make sense to enter yours first, then enter the name of the second identifier and do his/hers next as that name will copy down. If lots of different people have identified the records then you will have to enter them individually, but then you would have needed to have done that regardless of if the field was blank or pre-populated with a different name.

Thanks James - I didn't realise that if I am the recorder I am also automatically added as the identifier (unless someone else gives me their opinion during verification). I know that when I look at other people's records very often there is no one given in the 'Identified by' field. I'll just carry on deleting my name then.

For some reason the identifier field is automatically filled in for the 'enter a list' option, but starts off blank for casual records, so if you are looking at a list of other peoples records and there are blanks in that field then the most likely explanation is that they were entered as casual records or using a species-specific form other than the species list.

You can keep deleting your name from that field if you want, but there is no need to remove it from a recording point of view so that would just be your personal preference.
