I would like to start a new species group to collate records for a particular species across the UK, how do I or who do I contact about getting that set up and also becoming an iRecord verifier please?

You should be able to create a new activity to accept records for one species. Select Activities -> My Activities -> Create New Activity.
As to becoming a verifier, that is a matter for the recording society that covers your species.
