The form won't accept my species name Andricus quercuscalicis, the knopper gall wasp so I am unable to enter my record.
Do I have to approach the form via a taxon such as Insecta Hymenoptera?

I just tried it, cutting and pasting the name from your post and inserting it into a Casual Record form. No problem.
