Recording location

Submitted by Tabrons on

I find it difficult to record a location that is bigger than the 10m square. Is it possible to record a wider location than this, especially when visiting a reserve when you don't know exactly where you photographed something, only that it was somewhere in the reserve/area.

Are you adding records on the website or via one of the apps? On the website you can use a larger grid square by zooming out on the map, and clicking from further out. Alternatively you can edit the grid ref that has been suggested, or just type a grid reference in without clicking on the map. We would recommend using a square no larger than 1 km (which equates to a four-figure grid reference). So, if clicking on the map gave you a grid ref of AB12345678, you could edit that to AB1256 to get the 1 km square.

There is also an option on the map where if you press the hyphen/minus key (-) at the same time as clicking on the map it should give you a six-figure (100 metre) grid squiare instead of an eight-figure (10 metre) square. This option can be a bit fiddly to use but might be worth a try.
