Recording

This is the most difficult and frustrating site I’ve ever used. It takes me up to an hour to enter one record and today I have given up.

That's a shame to hear. Generally it is quite quick to add records, and if you save the details for the sites you visit often it becomes even quicker. Rather than give up, can you describe what the problem is?

Why, when I enter records for my home and garden in Bristol BS3, do they always come up as West Gloucestershire? In fact Bristol is correctly the CITY and COUNTY of BRISTOL - if this is too difficult for you the most accurate (and more appropriate) location to use would be North Somerset, NOT West Gloucestershire.

Dear Caroline, UK and Irish biological recording use Watsonian vice-county boundaries, mainly for historical stability. The iRecord determination is based on that. See e.g. https://www.cucaera.co.uk/grp27700/?refs=&map=ordnance&vcs=true&graticule=true&nsgrids=false&zoom=7&lat=53.32725129651491&lon=-1.5369675810799526&distinct=false&bedrock=false&superficial=false&sketches= to confirm this. Also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vice-county for educational purposes. Best wishes, BRC
