Recent sightings

Submitted by Penny Bentley on

Recent sightings are not recent sightings, I like to look at the recent sightings to see what has been seen and find out what's about now (recent sightings) but take todays recent sightings they are from July 2016 - not very recent. They are not relevant to the current season or the current year, in short they are not recent. One is from 2002 - 20 years ago.

The 'recent sightings' are those that have been added recently. During spring and summer these will often be things that people have just seen and added, but over winter when the weather is often inclement and not as much is being recorded people often catch up and add old records. You can easily put together a filter for records that have been seen recently by going to "All records", picking your vice county and selecting a date range.

Then why is it not called Recent Listings not Recent Sightings?

You're right - it should really be called Recent Records.

Anyway, a filter might be better suited to what you want, because you can limit the results to e.g. the areas and groups you are most interested in. Also, the list on the home page only shows the ten most recent records, whereas a filter can obviously show much more than that.
