Adding Formica rufa sensu lato to iRecord

Submitted by Mike Fox on

Can a new aggregate name be added to the species list on iRecord.

I'm asking because I think it would be useful if records could be entered for the Formica rufa group of wood ants. If this were possible records of nest mounds could be made by non-experts without the recorder having to critically examine any specimens. The sites could then be re-visited by experts and determined for species.

Currently records can be entered at the level of genera, i.e. 'Formica' which is a rather broad spread for this purpose, as there are some Formica species that are not wood ants.

I understand that iRecord updates it's species list fro m the UKSI but I checked the UK Species Inventory on the NHM website and could find no sensu lato suffix on any species name. However I note that iRecord does have some e.g. Lasius niger sensu lato and so I hope that you are able to add Formica rufa sensu latto.

What can you do?
